Sure, be sure to check out the Alameda Free Library collection (and possibly get a library card) before you come to class. The library already has a couple of Java books, plus O'Reilly just donated 5 more 'Hello Android' books 3rd. edition last week (these are just fresh off the press, and hopefully the library will have them indexed soon). 'Hello Android' is a great book for beginners. Also, you should definitely try to pre-install as much of the Android SDK as you can before you come to class
